As long time Diners know, historically many civilizations have Collapsed, in fact all of them have except our current one.  These prior events are often discussed, looking for parallels with the current collapse to find indicators and better understand the dynamics.  The Bronze Age collapse and the Roman Empire are favorites historically, and pre-historically you have the Mayans and the legendary Atlantis.

Another smaller one occasionally referred to is the Polynesian Island of Rapa Nui, also called Easter Island.  That the one with the monolithic statues. Recent studies indicate this collapse never happened, at least not the way it was thought to happen.  Now it looks like this was not a self-induced collapse, but yet another indigenous culture destroyed by contact with European explorers in the 16th century.

The Polynesian colonization of the Pacific Islands with only Stone Age technology remains one of the most incredible feats of the species Homo Sapiens ever accomplished, and gives me Hopium that eventually at some point in the distant future after our current civilization dies off and Gaia has a millenia or two to recover from the abuse of the Age of Oil that we can reboot and live in cooperation and harmony with nature as those civilizations did.

Hopefully I will be Reincarnated in that distant future and stand navigating by the stars on the deck of my cat-rigged sailing canoe loaded with preps and accompanied by my crew of nubile concubines picked up along the way as I circumnavigate the globe looking for surviving pockets of adventurous freedom seeking nymphomaniacs.  8)

I might need a Bigger Boat than this one. lol.  A fleet would be good.  A couple of boats for crew and my lead boat for myself and a rotating personal staff with my best Chef, Chess partner and bartender.

The Future's so Bright I gotta wear Shades  ;D
