We Deserve Better Certainties | Natasha Lennard

Postmodern angst.  Ignoring the certainties of life got us all into doom.  Saying everything is uncertain does not get us out.  Maybe nothing can stop a total ruin of humanity.  Is knowing about it better?

Knowing truth is better than not knowing it.

After watching this episode:

There seems to be no expression of the actual facts of our current situation.  Overshoot is not discussed.  Natasha talks about certainty and knowledge but she sees things as relative perhaps to a fault.  An infection of post-modernity.  Post-modernity reduces everything to social relations.  Science, reality and limits are ignored in retreat to idealism and withdrawal.  A riverbed can't move if there is nowhere for it to move.  Talk and thinking will not make evil meta-narratives go away.  It is hubris to think a single meta-narrative like 'capitalism' and 'imperialism' caused the current mess and simply thinking about new meta-narratives and hopping bunnies * will fix things.

* Hopping bunnies was not discussed.  The return to idealism makes me rant.
