I've felt imprisoned most of my adult life. Even before. Remember the old folk song "Little Boxes"? 60s, by Malvina Reynolds.
I was around 7 when that came out. It's all always seemed like one big mousetrap to me. Everybody running round on little mousewheels. Of course, there were plenty of worse prisons around the world, but that thing we supposedly had and fought for, Freedom? Never felt very free to me.
