Between the ocean temperature rising and acidification that occurs as CO2 dissolves in the water to form carbonic acid, the future prognosis for all shellfish is pretty grim.  The shells are made of calcium carbonate, and once the pH gets too low the clam or shrimp or lobster or oyster or snail or crab (pick your favorite) can't form.  Say goodbye to Oysters Rockefeller, Lobster Newburg and Szechuan Shrimp on the menu.

No worries though, the chef can still substitute Grasshoppers.  Since they live on dry land, they should be able to keep their protective body armor a while longer.  Of course, there are still those pesky pesticides to worry about.
