Population of Greenland is 56,865. So if you offered each citizen $1M, it would cost $5.865B. Would they sell it for $1M each? Do they have the right to sell it? Who holds the Title to the property?
This is sort of like the Dutch buying Manhattan Island. The Natives didn't have property ownership or titles. So was that sale legal? Can a whole continent be claimed as property simply by planting a flag?
The whole idea is pretty preposterous, as is the rest of private property law which follows from it. But that's how the world got divided up in the colonial era. Billionaires simply want to continue the practice in the modern era.
