This is not surprising, for several reasons.

First is pure demographics.  Beginning in the 1970s in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, immigrants to the FSoA no longer were dominated by the poor white folk from Europe, which had recovered from WWII and achieved a standard living similar to the FSoA and shifted to immigration from SE Asia, India and Pakistan.  I remember watching the transition of my neighborhood in Flushing going from Italian & Irish to Chinese, Viatnamese and Indian/Pakistani.  Today, Flushing is the biggest Chinatown in the world, bigger than either the original in NYC or the SF Chinatown.  After the first Gulf War then Afghanistan, the immigration shifted again coming from the Middle East and Africa.

Along witth this shift came the new Multicultural ethic both in Education and the Media.  Just like it was no longer Taboo to show homosexual couples on TV sitcoms, it became de riguer for every TV show to have a few characters involved in interracial marriages or romances.  Back in the 60s, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" was considered a shocking movie and idea.


So, just like the imaginary past of happiness with high paying factory jobs, MAGAotts pine for the Happy Days when a boy or girl wouldn't DARE bring home a romantic interest of a different race or the same sex.  Trumpism taps into this nostalgia, which goes right along with the Eugenics arguments of racial superiority that underlies Elon Musk's breeding plans.  All straight out of the Nazi playbook, of course.
