The exhaustive quality of the piece is overkill of course, but it is worthwhile to document the level of complete destruction and enshitification of the net. I used to be able to go online and find endless stuff worth reading, now there's nothing you can find at least. EVERYBODY has a paywall.
Before there was internet and you got your information from newspapers, you could just wait until the end of the day and pick one up off a bench or out of a wastebasket to read. Now it doesn't matter how old the story is, you still gotta pay. Plus you can't just buy one issue, everything requires a subscription. Beyond that, once you get inside any MSM website, the journalism is so piss poor they should be paying you to read it. Nobody actually investigates anything anymore, all they do is regurgitate whatever press release has been handed out. Are there even any western journalists who report from Iran or Russia or China? If there are, anything not in a press reelease is squashed for "National Security".
For myself, keeping up with current events means reading Headlines, then trying to extrapolate what is really going on by spotting inconsistencies as the press releases change from one day to the next and the spin doctors try to build new narratives. The only thing youy can reliably be sure of is that nearly everything distributed for public consumption is a lie.
It doesn't matter that much to J6P, since literacy is down to maybe a 3rd grade level and the average Homo Sap has the attention span of a distracted flea anyway.
Anyhow, the fact remains that even without the enshitification, if you did have access to everything and the full truth of our situation was available, would it change anything? Would there be mass rebellion and revolution? Probably not, although at least maybe Chump would be impeached with full unredacted release of the Epstein documents. Lake Mead would still run dry though, more Nuke plants will be switched off and more people will die as food insecurity spreads from the shrinking harvests.
You won't know about most of it though, the Headlines you read will all praise the great leadership of our POTUS and the Statue of Liberty will be replaced by a 1000 ft tall bronze replica of His Royal Trumpness pissing into NY Harbor.
