The Eurotrash are about one or two off ramps ahead of the FSoA on the Collapse Highway.  I think you can look at what's occuring over there as a window into the future as to what will happen here 2-4 years down range.

Certainly the energy problem underlies most of the issues since it's the main expense for running their societies, as it is here.  The problems manifest themselves in the economics, and their DEBT problems are further advanced.  Main reason for that is they don't have the advantage of printing the World Reserve Currency.  So they end up having to pay a few more Basis Points on their Goobermint Bond than the FSoA does, and the compounded interest over time has left them broker than the FSoA for living a similar sort of existence, albeit with a slightly more socialist spin to it.

The result over the last 30 years or so is that they have ignored maintenance of the infrastructure and everything needs money to fix.  They're already so indebted they can't borrow more to fix it except at interest rates they can't afford to pay.  Taxes are already high so they can't raise them anymore either to generate revenue.  So all the complaints the students have about the schools and everyone has about housing can't be fixed.  Thus instead of trying to fix things, they are trying to squash the rebellion through repression, and of course blame the "Radical Left" for the violence.

Nothing short of REVOLUTION can fix the problems, which wouldd include a complete overhaul of the monetary system along with Nationalization of most major industries.  IOW, taking all the Wealth out of private hands and returning it to the workers who actually built the society rather than the shareholders of the corporations.  The Political Class is trying to protect the system that exists, because they are the ones who profit from it along with the shareholders.

The system is broken so bad now it can't be fixed with glue and duct tape.  It has to be dismantled and a new structure built for a world of diminishing resources & Negative Growth.  The rich will resist that every way they can.
