Wishful thinking, human survival will probably require de-evolution like in 'Galápagos' by Kurt Vonnegut.
The passengers' descendants evolve into seal-like creatures suited for their aquatic surroundings. These new beings, labeled as humankind, lack the sophisticated brains of their ancestors. Vonnegut critiques the "big brain" that led previous humanity to despair. He argues that smaller brains could lead to simpler, happier lives as the descendants embrace their natural instincts.
And great white sharks are our natural enemy. If so humans will at last achieve their appropriate insignificance. Like the rest of life on planet Earth, we will have a day in the sun and that is all. Perhaps it is not the big brain, but human hands that the Earth will learn to do without.
Or perhaps humans become a discarded ticket on the floor of an empty theater after closing. One of millions of dead ends playing out their act on the stage of life.
