It is obvious a huge digital divide is growing.

Would you rather break your back digging a hole with a shovel or sitting in a Caterpillar Back Hoe listening to tunes on your Bose headphones while drinking a Heineken and smoking a Doobie?

As you know my answer has been to work the backhoe while smoking the doobie without the Heineken, and my local only approach keeps me from becoming a mental vegetable.  It will come down to people who use AI as a tool to do what they do instead of asking it to do all they do.  As the huge majority of people will.

AI Is Hyper-Scaling Digital Inequality  The next AI divide is about who gets to build, govern, and benefit

Artificial intelligence is reshaping key sectors worldwide, but its advantages are concentrated in wealthy nations with advanced infrastructure, while others grapple with poor connectivity, skill shortages, and weak institutions. Local perspectives are frequently excluded from design and governance, deepening global inequities. Though some regions pursue context-sensitive solutions, they encounter barriers to implementation and autonomy. Meaningful progress demands inclusive participation in determining AI’s purpose and direction for all societies.

Artificial intelligence holds great promise but risks widening societal inequalities through unequal access, skill disparities, and biased systems. The AI divide affects economic, educational, geographic, and demographic groups, particularly harming marginalized communities. Without inclusive design, ethical guidelines, and equitable policies, it may reinforce power imbalances. Bridging this gap requires diverse teams, continuous learning, public investment, and global cooperation to ensure shared benefits.
