The country where lethal hantavirus cases are on the rise. Experts blame climate change

Elsewhere, the outbreak of the virus on the cruise ship MV Hondius has sparked fears that another pandemic looms, as guests aboard the vessel hail from many different countries.
"I do understand why people jump to that conclusion," Dr. Charlotte Hammer, assistant professor in Health Security and Infectious Diseases at the University of Cambridge, told CNN on Saturday. "We have a collective memory of Covid, but if you look at the virus and at the disease, we are looking at something quite different here."

Hantavirus ain't Covid. The difference between the two is fundamental. Very few people in the US go around in direct contact with various infected rodents....particularly their urine, feces or saliva. Maybe folks in Alaska in survival situations might do it commonly, but in the L48 not so much.

Last time I heard about a hantavirus death down here in Colorado was like more than a decade ago, and involved mouse droppings and someone inhaling them somehow.

<yawn>

Need to find a better doom trigger to pretend is happening this week. Maybe aliens? I heard the US is hiding evidence of them.

Whitman County resident dies of hantavirus: First Washington state case and death in 2025

This is the first documented hantavirus case in Whitman County and the first reported in Washington state in 2025. Historically, the state sees between one and five confirmed hantavirus cases annually.

RE

The virus may have mutated to permit transmission between humans via saliva.  It could even be aerosolized.

HOLY CRAP! SOMEONE DIED FROM HANTAVIRUS!!!!!

World population increases...maybe 80 million a year? To get the BEGINNING out a collapse you need 80 million non normal deaths to balance normal population growth, and then some other nice chunk like another 80 on top of that to boot.

You going to sweat hantavirus in Seattle are you?

Please. I don't mind the weird nature of doomer sites, claiming doom with every minor virus like Covid that can't offset population growth for even a year, but this one? Please.

Yeah, I'll play... and David Ickes' alien overlords disguised as humans could be involved. Atlanteans among us perhaps? I got a guy on reddit going on about Tibetan monks who are sitting outside in -45F weather for 8 hours because their meditation protects them.

Could be...maybe..may have.....I completely agree.....but aren't all the ones I mentioned COOLER!

There aren't any confirmed cases of Alien Overlords.  Cases of viruses mutating are confirmed and common.

Not according to David Ickes. And of course viruses can mutate. Good thing this one isn't smart enough to have done that yet! But in the doomer realm....we can always HOPE!
