Shooters

RE

This was a long running thread on the original Diner, tracking all the mass shootings as an indicator of increasing social breakdown.  We also used to have a dedicated board for Doom Psychology topics, which we don't have here as of yet, so I'm dropping this thread here under the General category.  If however more psych related topics come up, I'll make a new board and move them all there.

Meanwhile, although based on the definition this is apparently a record setting year for mass shootings, it's been a while since we had a really big public one.  For a while, it seemed like we were getting a school or bar shoot-em-up every other week or so.  Feels like the calm before the storm.

This is a new fad I haven't heard about before.  "Sideshows" are apparently impromptu gatherings of car freaks who get together late at night and instead of old fashioned Fast & Furious racing for pink slips, they crash cars, set them on fire and run people over.  It does not sund particularly safe to be a spectator at one of these events.

Definitely has a real Mad Max feel to it and an interesting enhancement of the Flash Mob meme.  I can see a variant emerging where instead of hanging out in one spot, they zoom around the city getting in hit & run crashes, along with running cars through the entrances and display windows of stores to allow looters to follow them in.

Apparently so far the Gestapo hasn't found a good way to combat this phenomena.  I'm sure the carz are all stolen, and as soon as the cops start to arrive the drivers and riders ditch the car and blend in with the spectators.  If they aren't idiots and wear gloves, no fingerprints and unless their DNA is on file stray hairs won't locate them either.

Not sure how widespread this action is yet.  It has a definite CA feel to it, I could see the Beach Boys or Jan & Dean writing a song about it.  It definitely will get a movie.

WTF is Charlie Kirk?  Captain Kirk's bastard son with Yeoman Janice Rand? Why waste a bullet on this guy?  If you're going to assassinate somebody, at least make it somebody reasonably important.  Does anybody besides his family give a shit that CK is dead?

'People are scared to death': Members of Congress fear for their safety after Charlie Kirk assassination

The Trump team demands absolute loyalty.  Charlie Kirk could easily been some kind of problem for the T team that we do not know about.

Donald Trump has claimed his supporters are so loyal that he "could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters." His supporters are dedicated to him, regardless of what he does, or who he kills.

Some people, like dogs need a master.  Charlie may not have been being a good dog.

An incel with too much time on his hands was obviously not the shooter.  The shooting was well planned.

Based on what is now being said, the shooter having surrendered himself, the one thing we now know is there was certainly some planning between him and buddy or two, and that he missed. The speculation from one of those Navy Seal experts that showed up on TV was that he didn't account for the elevation change, which makes perfect sense.

Something I know exists, but never came into play with the hunting or target shooting I've done. I was surprised by the size of the miss though, if indeed it was all because of the elevation difference.

I pulled out my last range targets with a bolt action 30-06 (I beleive the shooter used a Mauser?) at the 150 yard distance, where I fired 14 rounds. The first 9 were in groups of 3, and I used them to site in the rifle, and then the last 5 were for effect at 150 yards. On the final 5 shot group, on a rifle I hadn't fired in this century (step dad had it for a spare if his buddies didn't have theirs or whatever), the maximum vertical seperation was about 1.4 inches, the horizontal separation a little more, about 1.8 inches.

So close to 1 MOA (experts are looking for more 0.5 MOA or even 0.25 MOA on their target setups) and if you put those measures to your face, they are closer together than your eyes are side to side, and closer together than the tip of your nose to right around the bridge.

That is what can be expected from amatuers with zero experience across decades. So the miss here was HUGE compared to even amateur hour folks like me. Not always an amateur of course, but as I said...haven't used this gun much since I bought it in high school. Switched to woodlands hunting with a level action 44 magnum because I never needed to do long range (100+ yard) stuff except during groundhog season. And I had another 30-06 I liked better and used that instead. Or a pistol, just for practice.

The kid is young who did it. Haven't seen mention of his practicing beforehand yet, but I imagine it will come out through tales from his family and neighbors and the background info that GovCo is going to get ahold of.

The shooter, Tyler Robinson.

Some white guy from a Republican family, the dad turned him in.

At this point there are more questions than answers.  Good it is not a Reichstag fire moment.

Looks like I was wrong.

It happens. The good news is, things that can be interpreted to be a conspiracy happen like every week in Trump world. I think the entire Epstein thing is like a gift that keeps on giving.
