Health officials raise alarm over new Ebola outbreak in DR Congo

Health officials have raised the alarm over an outbreak of the Ebola virus in a remote region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).  The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the continent’s top public health body, said on Friday that it has recorded 246 suspected Ebola cases and 65 deaths in the Ituri province in the northeast of the country.

How about an Ebola-Hantavirus-Covid synthetic virus concocted in an Israeli bioweapons lab to eliminate Palestinians in Gaza and Lebanon without the need for all those messy bombs?  Plus, they won't need to draft all those Ultra-Orthodox Rabbinical students into the Army!  All they need is a vaccine to immunize the Israeli population and NitwitYahoo solves all his problems.

OK, it's a little far-fetched.  Still, you can't discount anything these days.

WHO declares international emergency over Ebola outbreak

"The Bundibugyo strain has no vaccine, no specific treatment," DRC's Health Minister Samuel-Roger Kamba was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying. "This strain has a very high lethality rate, which can reach 50%."

DuM-DUM  DUM-DUM...

50% Lethality Rate.  That's impressive

American infected with Ebola in DRC, as US moves to limit entry from virus-hit region

The latest outbreak is being driven by the Bundibugyo strain, one of several viruses that can cause Ebola disease.
WHO said. The organizaton has called the outbreak "extraordinary" as there are currently no approved treatments or vaccines specific to the Bundibugyo virus.  Ebola symptoms include fever, muscle pain, rash and sometimes bleeding. The virus is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids, including the handling of contaminated materials or someone who has died from the disease.

Looks like Africa's population might take a hit.  Will it go global?  Stay Tuned.

At least something like this has a chance. Other qualifying global collapses have been disease related, so we're talking about real potential versus the make believe stuff so popular in doomerville.

Uganda closes its border with Congo as cases of a rare Ebola type surge

Ugandan authorities on Wednesday ordered its border with Congo closed “with immediate effect” as suspected cases of a rare type of Ebola surge near 1,000 there and others emerge at home.

Probably past the point it can be contained inside Africa.  Long as it doesn't mutate and go airborne though, there should be time to develop a vaccine. If it does go airborne or cross species though, things could get really ugly.

WHO chief visits Ebola outbreak epicenter in eastern Congo as cases outpace response

The response has not kept pace with one of the fastest-spreading outbreaks on record, Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, warned on Saturday.  "Never before has an Ebola outbreak recorded so many cases so soon after its declaration."
Dr. Alan Gonzalez, MSF's deputy director of operations, said in a statement. "Nobody knows the true scale and severity of this outbreak."

Will it escape Africa?  Given there is NO TREATMENT & NO VACCINE available yet, it seems pretty likely to cause significant DEATH inside the Dark Continent.  How many Dead will we end up with?  Will it top 1000?  1M? 1 BILLION ?!?!? 😬👿 What's the over-under on this?  Will it have legs or will it peter out?

The more cases we get, the more likely it becomes there will be mutations.  If it goes airborne or crosses species, we're cooked.  If it hits the Avian population that will bring it to Europe pretty quickly.

On the positive side, if it gets bad enough we won't have to worry about Hormuz and the Oil trade. 😀
