Is it worth pointing out that in American Socialism this nonsense would not exist?  A planned economy centered on human needs would not allow this bubble.

Apple Raises Mac and iPad Prices Up to $300: iPhone 18 May Cost Even More This Fall

MacBook and iPad prices rose up to $300 Thursday; the structural memory shortage means no quick fix.

I have the parts for my new computer, and am in the process of bringing it up.  The memory I bought has gone up $700 in price from when I bought it a month ago.  I paid triple the old price then.  I have 128 GB.  The hard drives (4) also cost a small fortune.  Believe it or not, computer retailers are not trying to raise prices.  They are only passing on what they have to.  The problem is at the top.

AI has killed the home computer hobby.  Rolling your own is becoming a thing of the past.  If you have a mind for conspiracy and think perhaps killing the home computer industry so corporations and Tech Broligarchs have total control over AI is a plan.

You may be right.

It makes me wish America were not so docile.

Less Than A Year After The Last Price Hike, Xbox Is Increasing The Price Of All Of Its Consoles Once Again

It's becoming increasingly expensive to be a gamer these days, whether it's the rising cost of video games as a whole, or Valve trying to swindle you out of over $1,000 for a not very good PC. Everything is increasing in price.

All citizens will have are dumb terminals that listen to everything you say, and they will watch what you do.  Isn't there a book about that?

RAM price hikes: the latest on the global memory shortage

Random access memory, or RAM, is in just about every piece of technology we use. But it’s also the technology that AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta are using to power the servers in their massive data centers.

You could see the end of the true "Personal Computer" when the Netbooks, Tablets, Smartphones and Cloud Computing took off.  99% of people just use a computer for communications and entertainment.  They don't need or care about actual computing power, except for the Graphics card of course.  It's actually a little surprising you can still DIY build at all.

Centralization with Dumb Terminals is the Rentier model, when software disappeared fromm Best Buy, I knew the whole thing was Doomed.  The net has turned to garbage anyhow, so as a tech that once held the potential for freeing and uplifting humanity, it has turned into an epic failure.

Such is the hope of its supporters anyway. During the last national elections folks seemed to be more interested in fascism. Mandami appears to be pitching his verwion of it pretty well. I suppose, on the grounds that if the Republicrats can lean farther right, the Democans can try leaning farther left. RE can have his prior protein rations restored, and you can get cheaper health care maybe, and higher taxes because you own property that can't be hidden or moved very easily. Always hated the idea of buying a house for that reason, if more closely resembles a financial anchor.
