A volt can get you to the store.  Hard to say what you'll find there, since electrifiication of trucks hasn't gone too well.

‘Science fiction’: Transport companies — the backbone of economy — are sounding alarm on fuel prices

Prices for diesel, the fuel type used to power trucks and trains, came in at an all-time high of around $6.31 per gallon on Wednesday, according to AAA. Diesel prices have surged more than 70% from a year ago, which analysts attribute to the supply shock from the U.S. war with Iran.

It's Harvest time too!  Between the Diesel foor the Tractors and the Diesel for the Trucks, Food Inflation has a ways to go.  Of course, Food & Fuel aren't counted in the "Core" inflation figures. 🙄  Counts in your wallet though.  At least they can still buy it here though.  For now.

How record diesel prices will rip through the U.S. economy. Trucks, rails are only the start

Diesel fuel prices have reached record highs due to tight global refining capacity, geopolitical disruptions, and supply chain strain, impacting nearly every economic sector. Transportation costs rise for trucking, agriculture, and construction, pushing up prices for goods and heating oil. Small carriers face hardship while larger firms leverage contracts to offset expenses. Households brace for higher winter heating bills as refiners struggle to recover, leaving no immediate relief in sight.

Preparing for Fuel Rationing: How to Plan Trips, Storage, and Backup Transport

Fuel is rarely infinite, and disruptions from disasters or crises can swiftly restrict mobility. Effective preparedness involves monitoring consumption, combining errands, storing fuel safely, opting for efficient vehicles, and adopting alternatives like bicycles and e-bikes. Planning ahead, not hoarding, ensures continued movement, evacuation, and access to essentials when supply chains collapse.

As price of fuel ratchets up, so does anger of people who can no longer afford it

Protesters are taking to the streets around the world to voice anger about skyrocketing fuel prices and rolling blackouts, as the now months-long US war with Iran drives up the cost of energy globally.

How high does the price have to go in the FSoA before we get the riots too?  I would think $10/gal should do it.  Of course Amerikans are so fat & lazy they can't get up off the couch to riot.

Amerikan Exceptionalism.  It's all good as long as it's somebody else's problem. 🙄

RE

The out of date tune that refuses to get irrelevant.

Just as well since all rioting will do is get you hurt.  Would $10/gal gas do it ?  I think that might get a few pussy hats out of the closet.  Then the hatters can drive down to a designated area to protest, and then drive home.  Stopping for a snack along the way.

The number of people who understand 1. and 2. give a shit about the issues is what ?

1 in 10,000 or less, that is what I am guessing.  Add the giving a shit part into the count, the ratio drops to maybe 1 in 50,000 as the better answer.

Leading to the conclusion that we can all bend over and kiss it goodbye !

I don't know Spanish and have no idea what she is saying.

Oh, Elon branching out with his big rigs from California like years ago seems to be proceeding exactly as expected. Start small, learn, do better, faaster, cheaper and presto....electrification of trucks looks like it is following the same path as EVs in general. Like he did with ebay, and as of late, knocking off various space delivery folks....otherwise known as "countries".

500 Tesla Semi trucks are hitting U.S. roads. Texas is part of the rollout

Einride is deploying 500 Tesla Semi trucks across key U.S. freight corridors, including Texas, California, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia, starting in September 2026. The electric trucks will serve Amazon and other customers, leveraging Einride’s AI platform for efficiency and emissions tracking. Texas plays a central role due to its growing freight demand and planned Megacharger network. This large-scale rollout marks a major step toward scaling autonomous electric freight operations and converting contractual revenue into active service.

$10! Maybe back in the OLD days when peak oil when ambulance chaser turned peak oil expert turned astrologist turned substitute teacher Matt Savinar (I just emailed him the other night to see if wouldn't mind discussing his journey with someone who knew he was full of crap 20 years agp, no word back yet)!

$7! $7 was...THE END. How about that 50% yearly inflation, THAT would be a better scare factor to use nowadays. Peak oil just leaves a foul taste in most doomers mouths nowadays.

I would feel bad for those most highly respected geoloigsts, physicists, petroleum engineers and bankers, but I can't..stepping stones into the stratosphere of the scientific world should always receive their due.

Typical Musk promotion: large numbers, ambitious timelines, and eye-watering projected economics presented ahead verifiable executable possibilities. Not vaporware, but the article offers no evidence that the deployment can achieve the projected $800 million in annual revenue and become a actual commercial success.  Glowing claims without evidence convince when the glow is bright enough.

RE

Currently, the FSoA truck fleet is less  than 0.5% electric.  They're not gonna get EV Big Rigs replacing the fleet in the next 2 months.

If Elon's EV trucks are as successful as his Robotaxi Rollout, it's gonna be a long time before we see Teslas delivering groceries to Kroger.

Well...true...but a one sided perspective. On the other is someone who maneuvered daddys small initial investment into technical accomplishments beyond the reach of entire countries.  Does he oversell and underdeliver sometimes? Sure. Does he do things that were once unimaginable and make them mundane? Yup.

How many times has ANY government launched a rocket, which offloaded its cargo in space, then landed it on water on the other side of the planet...where it tipped over...and became a boat! In 2025 SpaceX put 90% of all global mass into orbit. When a single company can outdo most nations in terms of high tech space flight, well, maybe it does come ith overexcited claims of profitability....but no one can deny the accomplishments of a single company and whatever type of person it took to make it happen.

True. But it sure might get 0.5% to 5% in a far shorter time period than otherwise. And, again like Elon's rockets, once the advantages are made clear at a higher price point, said price point will change. To be lower. And presto...market disruption. Just like EVs in Australia right now. And that disruption has already hit my household, and isn't stopping anytime soon.

RE

If Elon's EV trucks are as successful as his rocket company, there won't be any long haul diesel powered rigs on American interstates in a decade. The results that man can and has delivered have already changed entire industries...unlike those who claim...and fail. He has claimed, and succeeded before. Been an absolute moron and scumbag personally, but I imagine the robber barons of the early 20th century weren't much different.

Tesla: The Cybercab Failure Is Worse Than You Think

The Cybercab launch was the catalyst that was supposed to justify Tesla's valuation, and it delivered almost nothing that investors could measure. Instead of a fleet expansion plan, the company got a federal investigation, while its main competitor keeps adding cities. Meanwhile, the car business is heading into a tough Q3 comparison, and discounts are already back in China.
