The best analysis I read of why El Trumpo is interested in Greenland is because when you look at it on a flat map in a Mercator projection it looks as big as Africa.



It's all about image and control.  Greenland's real value is unimportant. If it really was important for minerals, you can be sure the Greenlanders will sell extraction rihghts to any multinational that wants to mine there.  Fact is right now there's no profit in it.  Same reason the oil companies won't "drill baby, drill" despite having the full supprt of his Trumpness.

Greenland is part of Trumps plan to pretend America is great again.

A way to waste public money in a way that enriches the Trump tribe.  For Trump that is what it is all about.  Talking about Greenland puts a smoke screen over the other things that Trump is doing. 

And a great way to facilitate a Trump Jr. hunting expedition.  Kangerlussuaq is a good place for a hunting lodge.

It's all about image and control.

Looks like El Trumpo is SERIOUS about acquiring Greenland & the Danes are equally serious that it is Not for Sale.  We ALSO know about his collossal ego and as Master of the "Art of the Deal" in Real Estate won't take NO for an answer.  He's also gonna want to send the message he's the biggest toughest leader of the biggest toughest country, so don't DARE defy me!

All of which sets up a huge, totally unnecessary rift and conflict within NATO and probably some kind of action or resolution at the UN.

Will he try to land marines on the beach and take the Greenies by force?  Doubtful CONgress would give authorization for that, but ya never know.   I think he would need a declaration of War to be able to do it, but again maybe not.

How many hotels are there in Greenland?  They should refuse to book them any rooms.  Or they could refuse them entry at customs.  Although maybe having anti-Trump demonstrations everywhere they go would make for better newz footage.

It's pretty clear the only way Trump gets Greenland is by some kind of military maneuver and unilateral annexation.  The question is whether he is unhinged enough to do that?  Them if he did how would CONgress react, and would the Generals follow the order?

Denmark should station at least one military unit to protect the Greenland goobermint offices.  Force a firefight if an invasion happens.

The social security system in Greenland includes:

Though benefits aren't as generous as in Denmark, they are still more secure than many U.S. states.

Greenland: Public pension system ensures a basic income for seniors, regardless of work history.  In the U.S. Social Security provides a pension based on work history.  Benefits depend on how much one has paid in.  There is universal access to pensions in Greenland, but In the U.S., people receive little or no Social Security if they haven't paid in.

Greenland: Parental leave policies exist, though not as generous as Denmark, child benefits are available.  In the U.S. there is no guaranteed paid parental leave, it depends on employer policy.  Any paid parental leave is better than the U.S.'s lack of guaranteed leave.

Greenland: Free education, including university options in Denmark.  In the U.S. only public school is free.  College is expensive, and student debt is common.  Greenland education comes without a massive debt burden.

But as they must have the COVID brain damage in Greenland like everywhere else, they must be standing in line to bend the knee to Trump.

Since the canals are critical for trade, this add still another variable to make the shipping industry nervous.  HTF could he get them to agree to this other than with military force?  When a ship arrives at the locks, if you don't pay, they don't pump the water.

His rationale here seems to be since Amerikan engineers did design work 100+ years ago, we get a free pass forever?  What about the countries that provided the laborers to dig them?  Shouldn't they get a free pass also?

Trump figures Colonial policy was great!  The King sends a ship somewhere, captain steps ashore and plants a flag and claims the whole neighborhood now belongs to the Crown.     Those pesky folks already living there can now either pay taxes to him or move somewhere else.  Or he'll donate smallpox infected blankets to them.
