There is no plan here, only Trump's thoroughly misguided understanding

From the POV of the FSoA economy, trade with Oz is meaningless due to the low population numbers.  30M people, barely larger than a couple of cities in China or the EU.  It's swamped out by trade with China, the EU, Japan & India.  The meat & potatoes on the production end is China and consumption on the EU side.  The rich countries of Europe are the only ones that can afford FSoA products along with the elite Chinese.  The trade war will negatively impact both.

There is no plan here, only Trump's thoroughly misguided understanding of how tariffs work and the underlying reasons for the FSoA deficit spending, which transfers wealth from the population to corporations through goobermint contracts.  His hacking away at the goobermint employee rolls will barely touch the total deficit.

Far as Oz is concerned, long as the bilateral trade with China remains good, you'll still have access to their goods and they'll buy OZ coal and minerals.  Start a garden and grow your own produce.  Plant an Orange tree.

I can't post a bar graph, but if you look at layoffs months on month its up  up about 60% for feb and 90% for march compared to any month in the last year. Only in pandemic there was that level. 275k in march and about 205k were federal workers. Some are saying this along with tariffs and 20% stock crash cause cash to go to treasuries causing fed to lower interest rates and then refinance govt debt cheaply to avoid default. Theres no chance the Donald thought that far on his own though.

Goodness, who ever assumed the guy could think in the first place? He has some kind of quality, persona maybe, that occasionally looks like a non-chimp intelligence level, but the instant it is tested in some way..."gee Mr President, you said XXX, what did you mean?" subject changing slogans and psychobabble bullshit is what comes back.

I followed your link, but I think the article is making a common mistake which is ubiquitous in our current environment.

That there is a logic behind the tariffs.  There is not any.  Here is what is going on.

Trump just spit in the face of every country on earth.  For 25 cents a head they can wipe the spit off their face.  They also have to buy one of his crypto coins.

I think Trump is about to find out the penguins are not going to do it.

Good move for Vietnam. ♟️ Posts online correctly cracked the formula for Trump's 'tariffs', which are actually a protection racket intended to benefit the Trump family.  Kiss the kings ring and buy his crypto.  Do it, and razzle, dazzle, drazzle, drone, time for your tariff to go on home.  And someone will be around tomorrow to pick up the bag.

Tariffs Charged to the U.S.A. is a phony calculation which turns out to be a ratio of trade imbalance having nothing to do with tariffs.

Vietnam is calling the bullshit, knowing Trumps column on his big card is bullshit.  Vietnam canceling all US tariffs forces their ratio to 0%.  From that they claim the nominal 10% like England, and bribe it down.

Meanwhile Trumpo gets ready to visit other countries that don't want to negotiate.  Gangsta style.
