'Stretched to the limit': Heat wave prompts US electrical grid emergency

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright issued an Energy Emergency Alert, directing officials of the biggest electrical grid, PJM Interconnections in the Mid-Atlantic region, to take action to prevent blackouts and ensure essential operations like hospitals are fully functioning during the heat wave.

No problemo.  We have HVAC and Ice Makers.  Oh wait... they work on electricity. 😬

After France Swelters, Now It Burns

Southern France's already baked landscape is now burning, reports Reuters, with firefighters racing to contain multiple wildfires driven by strong winds and lingering heat. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said three fires, including two on the outskirts of Marseille, have burned about 2,990 acres so far, with no casualties reported.

No worries, AI will solve all the Climate Change problems.

How climate change influences extreme weather

How science shows us how warming makes heat waves, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires more likely or more severe, and why this science is becoming a major public-policy battleground.

Central Japan cities hit 40 C, officially marking first "kokushobi"

Three cities in central Japan on Tuesday reached 40 C, officially marking the country's first "kokushobi," or "cruelly hot day," since the weather agency introduced the term earlier this year to warn the public of extreme heat

New Motto: Land of the Burning Sun. 😎

I actually like this term.  Much more pithy than "Hotter than Hell" or "It's like an Oven out there".

Wondering how the various Kokushobis are playing out with the Rice crop this year, combined with the fertilizer shortages?  What will the harvest be like this year?

Tik Tok, tik toc...

Wildfires in Spain and France force evacuation of more than 250,000 people

Spain’s interior ministry said the flames have ravaged nearly 10,000 hectares (25,000 acres) in the Madrid region and “between 13,000 and 15,000 hectares” in the neighbouring province of Avila. The total is more than twice the surface area of the French capital, Paris.

This is new.  I've never heard of wildfires forcing evacuations of this magnitude in Europe before.  The climate change is really taking off.  Canada, Alaska, California old newzz, but Spain & Italy?

South Korea has hottest day on record amid extreme weather globally

South Korea has recorded its highest temperature since national weather records began more than a century ago, as an intense heatwave grips the country, the latest in a year of climate extremes that have caused droughts, wildfires, floods and powerful storms around the globe.

Lovely weather here in Alaska though. 😎

Europe’s rivers are running dry, and the knock-on effects are disastrous

Droughts that were once a century now happen every year, and the impact on wildlife, industrial output and culture itself is catastrophic.

So much for Nukes being the solution for replacing Fossil Fuels.  Can't run the reactors if you don't have the water to cool them and to spin the turbines.  Still more blackouts coming in still more countries.  We've officially arrived at the point on Richard Duncan's Olduvai Graph he theorized we would hit in ~2006.

His timeline appears to be about 20 years early.  Of course, in 1989 he didn't know about unconventional Oil so it's an understandable error.  If you figure his slope is approximately correct, we would bottom out on electric power around 2050.  That doesn't mean Zero electricity everywhere, and chances are the FSoA is one of the last places to go dark, but Global Warfare will tend to level things out.  Doubtful FSoA manufacturers can produce enough Patriots to shoot down all the missiles and drones flying around.

On the positive side, I may live long enough to see more of my predictions come true.😀

Which masked the reality that peak oil is correct.  The observation (it was never a theory) that it is nonsense only became nonsense after the goal-posts were moved.

So, one of the best geoscientists of the 20th century, who when he predicted US peak oil in 1950...got it wrong, and came back with another call in 1970...and got that one wrong because he didn't know about "unconventional oil"? Those rocks that in 1821 were producing natural gas from shale, and by 1880 those rocks were producing oil all around the Mid-Ohio valley? 76 years later this best geologist.....hadn't read up on the history of shale oil production? This same geologist, who in 1956, wrote ANOTHER seminal paper on...wait for it.....the first 100,000 frack jobs done in the US by that year since 1949 when it became commericial? That work on the rock mechanics of the process is still a taught paper in the schools that matter. Hard to claim a man didn't know something when he was happily publishing on it during the entire timespan.

I've previously explained why all this OLD and KNOWN oil came to be called "unconventional". And it has nothing to do with what Hubbert did or didn't miss, only that folks never read the late 1980's papers by the USGS focused on the geology of basin centered gas accumulations and what that meant. So 10+ years after he was out of the USGS his coworkers (I've talked to his last boss he worked for at the USGS) dee-mystified all of this geology, and 20 years later when the peakers were declaring doom none of them apparently had ever bothered to put these easy to find pieces together and know what was coming. Them, not knowing any geology, just made up the mysterious "unconventional" as an excuse for not having the ability to read the published science.

Some of us weren't fooled of course. Made a mint off of being right, and amusingly enough, all it took was knowing some history of oil and gas development.

Quote from: K-DogThe observation (it was never a theory) that it is nonsense only became nonsense after the goal-posts were moved.[/color]

The goal posts never existed, Hubbert just guessed at a 1950 US peak first, then another in 1970. His 1956 WAG for 1970 was much better documented than his 1938 wag of US peak in 1950.

We've been over this about "conventional" and "unconventional" being invented and whatnot. But a geoscientist that good doesn't need amateurs trying to cover up for him by pretending he was right to somehow save his reputation. Obviously he already had been wrong with his 1950 US peak oil claim, he was just more thoroughly documented on his 1970 call because it happened....until it didn't.

The precise date on which the availability of economically profitable oil extraction and consumption makes further growth impossible isn't important in the long term.  What is important is that when it does arrive, the effects lead to all the outcomes predicted, and which are currently well underway.  Wars to control the remaining resource, political instability and polarization and irredeemable debt overhang are enveloping all the developed countries in Europe and the resource and labor countries in S America, Africa, MENA and SE Asia.  The big engine of China-FSoA Production & Consumption is running on fumes.  Climate related disasters pop up on a weekly basis.

Later than expected, but here nonetheless.

Says you. Every website I've been on, some of which you were on, most certainly disagreed with your current opinion. If in fact it was only a current one.

Quote from: REWhat is important is that when it does arrive, the effects lead to all the outcomes predicted, and which are currently well underway.
So, when global peak oil happened in 1979, and lasted 15 years or so, why didn't those outcomes manifest themselves then? Or after any of the other peaks oils, such as the 2018 one? That lasted 7 years, and was only dispatched in 2025. And no...there are no MZBs, building homemade claymores isn't a thing, and as anyone who buys a tanker of liquid fuels at a time can tell you....they certainly STILL buy such a load.

Maybe your interpretation of what was supposed to have happened is what you are referring to? Because the vast majority of folks claiming peak oil effects DIDN'T proclaim random, run of the mill idiot political repercussions is just that.

You yourself over on peakoil.com were describing your after peak oil lifestyle, and the friends you would hsve defending the last frontier as La Longue Carabine in the lead. Well...did you live that lifestyle between 2018 and 2024, all of those post peak years?

This list was ALSO claimed as happening way back when, DURING all the claimed peak oils. Don't you think rather than just repeating something that has, apparently, been happening for at least 25 years according to internet pundits, you could pick a few more specifics that aren't the usual claimed events? Wars to control remaining resource? You seen anyone attacking the US as the world's largest producer of oil and gas? Attacking Canada for their timber? Irredeemable debt has been around since Matt Savinar pitched the idea of the AMERO.

Later than expected meaning..."gee we sure screwed the pooch all those other times, lets hope this time is the one!". Well...Ruppert pitched the same thing in the last century, and when he died all that had collapsed over those decades was him.

You sure you aren't in the same boat? You've been seeing doom since early this century....and there it is...always over the horizon. The world is so horrible....yet it still can take care of those who lack the ability to care for themselves. No one is appropriating K-Dogs nice house for sleeping quarters for the new Gestapo, or kicking you into the street. Your internet still working? Of course. Food deliveries on time? Most likely. Do you lack fresh water? Doubt it.
