The U.S. president’s threat to ‘totally destroy’ a nation is beyond the pale. But is there method to it?

It was a page out of the Trump playbook.  A Trump knee-jerk reaction on how he gets his way.  And as much as some people talk about how dumb Trump is I have to point out.  Trump just played America and the entire American Media with files of archives and people familiar with Trump's past said nothing.

It appears America's social amnesia is now terminal.

Now North Korea's reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles threatens the entire world with unthinkable loss of human life, -- The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself.

After threatening "total destruction," Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to meet a North Korean leader. The joint declaration was heavy on symbolism and light on substance! Regardless we paid taxes that year.  But for Trump, who paid no taxes that year it was a historic photo op with claims of a diplomatic breakthrough.  In the end North Korea gained legitimacy on the world stage without giving up any nuclear weapons.

Trump's genius is not intelligence. It's only his instinctive reptilian repetition of what works, Trump counts on everyone else having the attention span of a goldfish.  Trump makes the same move, over and over, until his pattern becomes invisible and familiar, even comfortable. That's Trump's trick.

Ceasefire wins Trump instant gratification but Iran can enter talks with stronger hand

The announcement of a two-week ceasefire has allowed Donald Trump to hail the reopening of the Hormuz strait as a victorious dawn of a new golden age, but it is Iran that now enters peace talks with the stronger hand.

The Tehran regime goes to the negotiations planned for Friday in Pakistan bloodied but still intact. It still holds a stockpile of highly enriched uranium (the original crux of the conflict with the US, Israel and allies), and it now claims at least part-control of the strait, having demonstrated its power to close the narrow waterway and hold the world to ransom.

Being as American taxpayers fund this project, can I please have a brick with my name on one of the rebuilt bridges when the new greater Israel rebuilds the Litani River bridges they blew up into the new territory.

Long and fairly complete analysis of the options and difficulties involved in reopening Hormuz.  Upshot-it ain't gonna happen anytime soon.  Price wise, thusfar the price rise has been mostly speculative, actual shortage of product only exists in a few places.  In roughly a month, stockpiles will be depleted and physical shortage will start a bidding war.  The sky's the limit there and demand destruction will begin in earnest.  People will start dying in the poor countries of the world.  The real effects of Peak Oil will finally start setting in.
